Year Round Home Comfort

Heat Pump Service, Repair, and Installation in Delta, Surrey, Richmond, and White Rock

Heat pumps have been a hot topic lately, and for good reason. They are one of the most practical ways to keep your home comfortable year-round. In the summer, a heat pump works like an air conditioner by moving warm air out of your home. In the winter, it reverses the process and brings heat inside, helping you warm your space using less energy than many traditional heating systems.

There are flexible options for almost every home. A ductless heat pump is a great choice if you want to heat or cool one room, a suite, a garage, or an area that never feels quite right. A central, ducted heat pump connects to your existing furnace ductwork and can help manage comfort throughout the whole home.

The right system depends on your home, your budget, and how you use the space. Square footage, layout, insulation, ductwork, electrical capacity, and your current heating system all play a role. At Acorn Service Group, we help homeowners in Tsawwassen, Ladner, North Delta, Richmond, White Rock, and Surrey choose heat pump options that make sense for their home and their long-term comfort.

Ducted vs. Ductless air conditioning systems

Central (ducted) heat pump systems: Central heat pumps offer whole-house heating and cooling, with the addition of air-louver-control boxes, offers moderate, multi-zone temperature control capability.

In central air heat pumps, the inside cooling coil is typically placed inside the central unit of your forced air heating system (furnace or air handler), where it distributes chilled air throughout your home in summer, and heat during the winter using your existing ductwork.

Ductless heat pump systems: Ductless systems can supply chilled or warm air to a single room or several rooms in a home, depending on whether they are split, or multi-split systems. A split system uses a single indoor unit and a single outdoor unit, and is useful for heating or cooling one zone inside your home. A multi-split system attaches several indoor units to an outdoor unit, and can heat or cool an entire house, using a remote to program individual temperature settings in each zone.

How Ductless and Central Heat Pump Systems Work

Ductless (Individual Heat Pump)

Indoor units are placed in each room for individual heating and cooling. Each one can be connected to its own outdoor unit (split system), or up to five indoor units can be connected to a single outdoor unit (multi-split system).

Each indoor unit operates independently to enable individual temperature settings.

Ducted (Central Heat Pump)

Air is sent through ducts from one central location to heat and cool all rooms.

All rooms are heated and cooled uniformly at the same temperature settings.

Heat Pump – Service, Repair And Installation FAQ

How do I know if a heat pump is right for my home?
A heat pump can be a great fit if you want both heating and cooling from one system. It may work well as a full home comfort system, or as a solution for one room that is too hot in summer or too cold in winter. The best option depends on your home’s layout, insulation, ductwork, electrical setup, and current heating system. Acorn Service Group can help you choose the right heat pump for homes in Tsawwassen, Ladner, North Delta, Richmond, White Rock, and Surrey.
Can a heat pump help lower my energy bills?
A properly sized heat pump can help reduce energy use because it moves heat instead of creating it the way many traditional systems do. In summer, it works like air conditioning. In winter, it brings heat into your home to help keep you comfortable. Your savings will depend on your home, insulation, usage, current system, and energy rates. Acorn Service Group can help you compare options and choose a setup that fits your space and budget.
Do heat pumps need regular service?
Yes, regular service helps your heat pump run safely and efficiently. Since heat pumps provide both heating and cooling, they often work through most of the year. A maintenance visit can include checking filters, coils, drains, refrigerant levels, electrical parts, airflow, and overall system operation. Keeping up with service can help lower energy use, improve comfort, and reduce the chance of unexpected breakdowns.
What are common signs my heat pump needs repair?
You may need heat pump repair if your system is blowing cold air in heating mode, not cooling properly, making strange noises, leaking water, freezing up, short cycling, or causing a sudden rise in your energy bills. Uneven temperatures from room to room can also be a sign that something is not working as it should. If your heat pump is not keeping up, it is best to have it checked before the issue gets worse.
Can a heat pump replace my furnace?
In many homes, a heat pump can handle a large part of the heating and cooling needs. Some homeowners use a heat pump as their main system, while others pair it with a furnace for extra support during colder weather. This is often called a dual fuel system. The right setup depends on your home, your comfort needs, and your existing equipment. Acorn Service Group can review your current system and help you decide what is best.
